The working characteristics of a filter press are as follows: as the filter cake in the filter chamber gradually forms, the feeding resistance increases accordingly. However, excessively high feeding pressure can easily cause equipment wear. In the initial stage of feeding, the filter chamber has not yet retained enough materials; strictly speaking, the sealing performance of the filter chamber is not yet ideal. Therefore, during the feeding stage and the initial pressure filtration stage, it is necessary to maintain a low-pressure and high-flow state, with the pressure controlled at 0.11–0.12 MPa. For the pressure filtration stage, the pressure is appropriately controlled at 0.149–0.159 MPa, but it must not exceed 0.18 MPa.
Generally speaking, the higher the feeding concentration of a filter press, the better. A higher concentration leads to a shorter filtration cycle, allowing the filter press to maintain a larger processing capacity, a more ideal filter cake moisture content, and a lower solid content in the filtrate. However, due to the particularity of the coal industry, excessively high concentration may cause the rake of the thickener to be pressed (a common failure where the thickener’s rake gets stuck due to excessive solid accumulation), which affects normal operation and production. Therefore, when filter presses are used in the coal industry, the feeding concentration should be maintained at 400–600 g/L, which is sufficient.
Choosing appropriate supporting equipment is also a... key factor in improving the working efficiency of a filter press. To select a suitable filter press pump, it is necessary to understand the working characteristics of the filter press (as explained in the section on the working characteristics of the filter press). In line with the working characteristics of the filter press, the pump selected should be capable of automatically adjusting from a state of large flow rate and low lift at the initial stage of filtration to a state of small flow rate and high lift at the final stage. Reflected in the curve, this requires a relatively long or even a complete flow rate-lift curve, and the steeper this curve is, the better.
The above is the answer to how to improve the working efficiency of a filter press. The editor from Shaanxi Filter Press Company will stop here for the introduction. Do you all understand it?
